Watching the new seeds that were germinated yesterday and trying a new method this time. Last few rounds I’ve been soaking in water, but had 50% failure rate last time so looking for something more reliable. Do you have a favorite method of germination? I’m an utter failure at UFO (paper towels between two plates) and so am trying something […] View

@Δ-9 and @aporay- I know all about that. Can’t tell you how often in the past I’ve gone to check the towels after only a few hours AND the towel has gone dry. That’s…

@aporay – Yes purchased seeds from reputable breeders that I’ve used before. I use rain water for everything as that’s all I have. Yes, they were in a warm place. The tupperware / towel seems to produce much better results that UFO towel (two plates) and it was also a better time biodynamically for planting.

Tried to add pictures to the post- it appears to be broken. Not sure how to reach admin to let them know. Maybe they’ll see this @wedshare1

You’ve got damping off. There’s nothing that I know that will stop it once it’s started. I was just about to post to ask if people knew of the cause because I lost two seedlings to this during this round of germination.

                    • this happens to me every time! Burying an extra inch always seems to do the trick.

                      • Strange I’ve had pretty good success with the paper towel/ plate method. Couple of initial thoughts…

                        1) Where did you source your seeds? Are you sure of the quality?
                        2) Are you using raw tap water?
                        3) Are you putting your seeds in a warm place? I put mine on top of the fridge where it’s nice and warm.

Make sure you keep the seeds damp – don’t let them dry out during the process … they have to stay saturated (but not overly soaked). Keeping the seeds warm (on top of the fridge is a great suggestion by @aporay) will also help you successfully germinate.
                              • Good point Δ-9! they can dry out before you know it. Especially once your furnace switches on and sucks the humidity out of your home.
